This season Żegluga Gdańska offers cruises by the so-called Loop of Żuławy. The track runs from Gdańsk eastwards by the Szkarpawa River to the Vistula Lagoon [Zalew Wiślany], and then up the Nogat River and back by the Vistula to Gdańsk.
There is no other such a friendly place in Poland in terms of its tourist attractions available when sailing. The region of Żuławy has a network of rivers and canals that is developed better than the network of land roads. Therefore, even today we can come across villages build according to the water ribbon development style, where a canal or a river was their main transportation route. Using the terminology of land roads, it can be said that the area of Żuławy has its own water ‘motorway’, which is doubtlessly the Vistula River, and ‘main roads’, such as the rivers Elbląg and Szkarpawa, as well as a thick network of ‘local roads’, as for example the rivers Wisła Królewiecka, Święta, Tuga, Wierzyca or Motława. Unlike in any other place in Poland, water transport may be a target transport method in Żuławy. Any other way would be difficult in a land that owes its creation to water - here, where the man keeps to the unwritten pact with the nature and uses that land in return for hard work invested in regulation of water relations.
