Gdańsk

Gdańsk is the Polish maritime capital with the population nearing half a million. It is a large centre of economic life, science, culture and a popular tourist destination. Lying on the Bay of Gdańsk and the southern cost of the Baltic Sea the city is a thousand years old. With its Hanseatic tradition, it has for ages played a major role in the commercial relationships between Northern and Western Europe on the one hand, and the countries of Central and Eastern Europe on the other hand. Today, Gdańsk is the capital of the Pomorskie Region and an important administration centre.

Gdansk - tourismIn its "golden age" the city enjoyed the specific status of a municipal republic. It was also a melting pot of cultures and ethnic groups. The air of tolerance and the wealth built on trade made culture, science, and art flourish. Today, works by outstanding Gdańsk masters can be admired in museums, churches, and galleries. These collections, as well as the historic sites of enchanting beauty witness a thousand years of the city's continued existence. The break-through events of the most recent turbulent period are documented in the multi-media exhibition: "Roads to Freedom" arranged in the historic BHP hall of the Gdańsk Shipyard. The exposition recalls the local struggle for freedom and justice, and the birth of the first Independent Trade Union, "Solidarity". These developments triggered the avalanche that toppled communism in Europe.

Gdansk - tourismThe specific trade of amber processing is also far from minor in importance. Gdańsk cultivates its centuries-long tradition in the field, and its nickname of the world capital of amber is well earned. Just like in the olden days the city owes much to its seaport. The harbour, largest along the Polish coast and in the entire Southern Baltic basin, continues to develop.
The offer addressed to those who seek leisure at the sea comprises twenty three kilometres of clean beaches, three organized bathing grounds, and a 130-metre long pier. These are appended with such other outdoor attractions as the Gdańsk cycling tracks, zoological gardens, the famous Oliwa Park with its ancient trees, the "Gdańsk Fortress" Culture Park of City Fortifications with unique authentic military architecture, numerous parks and city squares, or the nature reserves of Sobieszewo Island. The list is far from complete.
The heart of the Old City features a yacht marina. Amateurs of water sports can indulge in their pastime out in the Bay of Gdańsk or along the Motława Arm, an exquisite watercourse for canoeing or kayak escapades.

Gdansk - tourismAlways hospitable, Gdańsk invites visitors to its charming lanes and historic interiors, bathing grounds on the sea and sailing courses, comfortable hotels, elegant restaurants, and cosy cafes. The city has several theatres, a philharmonic hall, an opera house, an outdoor summer musical stage, three multi-cinema complexes and several smaller cinemas, frequented youth clubs, pubs and discos. Its numerous museums, concerts, fairs, exhibitions and street theatrical events complete the broad spectrum of the city's cultural offer. Everyone will find something of his/her liking, irrespective of the interests or mood. Looking for a shoping center in Gdansk, Gdynia Sopot? - Visit Klif!

Gdynia
Gdynia is a young, but quickly expanding port situated right by the seashore, offering many tourist attractions as well as splendid shopping opportunities and a lot of entertainment. The city was founded as a Polish harbour in 1926. Because of its unusual location, you will easily catch great views of the sea and beautiful scenery, and also find long promenades, beautiful waterfronts, marinas and yacht clubs. Gdynia is the only city in Poland and one of the few in Europe to pride itself on such long and accessible seashore.
Marina Gdynia - tourismKosciuszki square (Skwer Kościuszki) is the sightseeing centre of Gdynia. The ships moored in the dockyards, like the ORP Błyskawica destroyer ("Lightning") or Dar Pomorza (the Pomeranian Gift) for instance, are the biggest tourist attractions. In summertime you can embark on the tourist ship "Viking II", which offers sightseeing cruises around the Bay of Gdańsk in the daytime, while at night it serves as a boat-restaurant. Scenes that you could otherwise admire only in the depths of the oceans offered by The Maritime Museum and Aquarium (Oceanarium) will leave you more than impressed.

Avenue Gdynia - tourismNow we recommend taking a walk along the Seaside Promenade (Bulwar Nadmorski), or visiting the nearby Cafes for a beer or coffee. You can enjoy the beautiful panorama of the harbour and of the city from the top of Stone Hill (Kamienna Góra), easily recognizable by the large cross at its top. On your way to the little hill, you will pass the famous Musical Theatre (Teatr Muzyczny), which stages the world's most-famed musicals. Another famous place is the Municipal Theatre (Teatr Miejski), with its Summer Stage (Scena Letnia) on the beach in Orłowo, where all shows are accompanied by the gentle lapping of waves. Jazz artists from all over the world often perform in Sax Club, located in the main building of the Theatre.
Swiętojańska Gdynia - tourismGdynia is also a great city for shopping. The most attractive places for spending your money are Starowiejska and Świętojańska Streets. There is a modern and exclusive shopping centre named "Batory", at the intersection of 10 Lutego and Władysława IV Streets, where luxurious shops and state-of-the-art architecture intertwine.

Sopot
Sopot is a small Polish town situated on the Baltic Sea coast between Gdańsk and Gdynia, a natural centre of the nearly one-million Tri-City agglomerations and the Pomorskie Region. The town achieved the top place in the ranking “Poland’s Best Places to Live”; the top position in the ranking “Stars on the Sand” prepared by the weekly “Polityka” determining the most attractive seaside bathing beaches; the Tourist Certificate of the weekly “Wprost” and many more top positions in various rankings.
Sopot - tourismThere live almost 40000 permanent residents and nearly 2 million tourists visit Sopot every year. Health resort visitors christened the town the Riviera of the North and the Pearl of the Baltic, while the celebrity of the performances staged in the Forest Opera earned Sopot the name of Little Bayreuth. Poles recognize Sopot as the summer capital of Poland. Sopot galleries invite you to visit plenty of exhibitions and previews throughout a year.

Along the coast the town is flanked by wooded moraine hills, while the Bay of Gdańsk is sheltered from the open sea by the Hel Peninsula, thanks to which the sea off the beaches of Sopot is warmer than at other locations on the Baltic coast. The town’s unique character stems from the Art Nouveau townhouses and villas, surrounded by trees, historic parks and beautifully cultivated gardens. Greenery covers 60% of the town area. The enchanting scenery of the town, based on the natural beauty of its landscape and convenient access by many modes of transport, make Sopot a tourist destination visited each year by over two million tourists and holidaymakers.

Sopot - tourismSopot attracts people’s attention and magnetizes them. It is a fashionable place, attracting those who long for a little rest, peace and quiet but also those who look for artistic inspiration. Region
There are not many places in Poland like the Pomorskie Region. Its magic is created by the murmur of the waves of the Baltic Sea, the mysterious forests and woods with their hundreds of lakes and rivers, the beauty of the landscapes and the picturesque hills. The highest of them all is Wieżyca, standing guard above them.
Region - tourismAn essential element of the cultural identity of the Pomorskie Region is the indigenous population of Kaszubi, who remain faithful to their daily traditions and customs, as well as their southern neighbours, the Kociewiacy. It is this indigenous population of these areas which constitutes the soul of the region. The Kashubian folk culture has not allowed itself to be locked away in museums - quite the contrary, the region is full of Kashubian embroidery, music, dance and pottery. The Pomorskie Region, however, is not simply the Three Cities and Kashubia. It is also the beautiful city of Słupsk - the capital of Central Pomerania - and the fertile Żuławy region - a land of windmills, arcaded houses, bascule bridges, river ports and Mennonite culture. There are also a number of imposing medieval Teutonic castles - in Malbork, Gniew, Bytów, Kwidzyn, Lębork, Sztum and Człuchów. Within the province there are two national parks, nine landscape parks and dozens of nature reserves.

Region - tourismThe most valuable of the protected sites in the region is the Słowiński National Park, one of the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserves, where you can see the only moving sand-dunes in Europe. There are also two sandbars: the Hel Sandbar (Mierzeja Helska) and the Vistula River Sandbar (Mierzeja Wiślana). Both are full of sunny beaches, cafes, ports and harbours, as well as modern conference centres. Apart from the numerous monuments from the past there is also very wealthy present: the colourful St Dominic’s Fair, the World Championships in Amber - trawling, Strawberry Harvesting, numerous regattas, festivals, concerts, and exhibitions. The combination of active relaxation and nature during rides across meadows, forest trails or the beaches along the sea will be a memorable experience.

Region - tourismThe Pomorskie Region is the only one in Poland to have two 18-hole golf courses of championship class. The Postołowo Golf Course, only 28 km away from Gdańsk, has two academies, a training course in the form of a driving range, a practice bunker, a chipping green and a putting green. The area of the course amounts to 100 hectares and the length of the course is 6,450 metres. Another golf complex - the Sierra Golf Club - is situated in the picturesque scenery of the Trójmiejski Landscape Park. Both courses are set in beautiful scenery and will please the most demanding golfers.
